The AtYoga 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course is approved and registered by the Independent Yoga Network. This course offers an in-depth, detailed study of yoga practice, philosophy and theory and gives deep insight into the underpinning philosophy of yoga.
Within the structure of the course we look at:
Functional anatomy and physiology, subtle anatomy, yogic texts, philosophy, history of yoga, cultivation of self-enquiry, lesson planning, course planning, asana sequencing, pranayama, meditation, relaxation techniques, practical teaching skills, safe integration of pregnant students in a yoga class, restorative yoga, chair yoga, children's yoga and mantra.
Strong emphasis is placed on the personal development of trainee teachers, with the ethos that the transformative process is an individual experience. It is this experience that contributes directly to the individuals’ development into a knowledgeable and authentic teacher of yoga.
This course encourages trainee teachers to develop in yoga and through yoga with a structured space to develop their own personal practice and teaching style, sound knowledge and practical skills for competent, confident teaching.
The course runs over a three-year period:
Year 1 – The Practical Teacher
The first year focuses on the students’ overall development in personal practice along with developing skills in practically applied A&P in teaching asana, teaching skills, devising and creating sound lesson plans, Subtle anatomy and philosophy. Cultivation of a deeper asana practice and introductory breathing techniques and a variety of teaching assessments. A practically based year with a variety of written assignments to underpin learning. The first year sets down the roots and foundations.
Year 2 – The Creative Teacher
The second year of the course brings focus to further developing the trainee teachers' confidence in their own practice and teaching style. The second year invites trainee teachers to develop creatively in yoga teaching whilst continuing to embed underpinning and practically applied knowledge in A&P, teaching skills and philosophy. continued development of asana, pranayama, relaxation and meditation, writing structured course plans, study of common yoga texts, developing mudra and bandha in practice and teaching and further teaching assessments.
The second year symbolises growth, it is the branches of the tree beginning to spread out.
Year 3 – The Settled Teacher
The third year of the course continues to refine, develop and explore asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha and relaxation with emphasis placed on the practice and teaching of meditation.
In the final part of the course a children's yoga module is integrated and all trainee teachers write a dissertation type paper on any area of yoga that they have developed a particular interest in.
The third and final year is the fruit of the tree manifesting.
Throughout the duration of the course a number of 'guest tutors' visit to deliver various workshops including Functional yoga anatomy, writing relaxation scripts, mantra yoga, meditation, chair yoga, pregnancy yoga and children's yoga. Student Teaching Insurance, First Aid Training and Real Class Observations are included in course fees.
